PoCampo is a NEW company founded by entrepreneurs and industrial designers Emily Seigler and Maria Boustead. Their site isn't ready yet, but their Facebook page is gaining momentum. Emily contacted me a while ago to develop a logo that embodied their mission statement and products. Their bike accessories aren't the regular sporty, ultra-sleek bike-y stuff you see all the time. These are bags that you would actually want to CARRY AROUND with you after you chained up your new vintage bike. Gratuitous photo of my own vintage bike at the end. Emily, I want a BAG!
These ladies are truly talented. And everything is made right here in the Windy City. :) Oh, how i love their fabrics.
From PoCampo:
At Po Campo we create fashionable AND functional bike accessories for women. Our products are made with pride in Chicago, IL. Bike and be free!
Website forthcoming. When it's up, you'll know all about it.
MY BIKE NEEDS A NAME. Suggestions?
The NEW News: Journalism We Want and Need is a special report of where our news sources have gone, are currently and will be. For anyone interested in anything at all related to journalism, and um… Things That Impact Your Life on a Daily Basis, check out this report. This report was published by Community Media Workshop, my long-term client and commissioned by The Chicago Community Trust. It's full of articles, survey results, commentary and a lengthy list of rated news sites. Trust me, it's worth the time to download and read.
Oh, and I designed the thing. It is an intimidating 36-pages of all sorts of data. I think I did a great job if I do say so myself. Get ready for a new landing page for this report that will combine the report articles with a Web 2.0 presence. It will be a lot more interactive and will be up soon. Right now, we have THIS to focus on.
"The trees came out of the muck and the fish followed. Here we are. I have been playing music for a good portion of my life. I play drums, guitar, bass, organ, piano, harmonica and I sing. We want to take you higher."
This is from Joe's MySpace Page. And this is the second CD I've designed for Joe, and not just because my brother, Sam, plays drums in the band. Joe is truly a musician of all kinds. He plays just about everything, sings, writes his own stuff and besides that is one of my oldest friends.
Translating a time in a musician's career, the sound from an album and the musician's own picture of himself into compelling, descriptive album art is still one of the toughest art direction jobs to do. I hope I'm getting better at it.
Oh yeah, CD release party this Sunday (23rd) at The House Cafe in DeKalb, IL.

Many thanks to my pals at the Nature Conservacny, New York Chapter. I just adore TNC and what they do: www.tnc.org. And they sent me a cheesecake (!!!) from Junior's for making their invite for The Young Professionals Group's annual benefit in March. Here it is. I hope those of you in New York will join and go, this a truly worthwhile cause full of wonderful people.
OMG, this cheesecake is so good. I had it for dinner last night and breakfast this morning…

Every year, Community Media Workshop host the Studs Terkel Community Media Awards Benefit. I make the invitations, which were especially special this year since they not only honor Mr. Terkel's life, but also celebrate CMW's 20th anniversary. We went for four-color instead of two and completely changed the format, making it longer and in separate components.
CMW's site explains the purpose of the event better than I can:
Much more than a
party, our 20th Anniversary Awards will celebrate the talent in our
ever-changing media landscape as well as Studs' phenomenal life. We
will honor journalists who go the extra mile to report news "from the
people who made Chicago, news that's bottom up rather than up, down,"
as Studs said at our 2007 awards event. "That's what this is all about."
Find out more about this event.
